Way back when, I took a vay-cay to Morocco. To take the attention off how bad the town and its facilities were, the local people just ranted and raved about their gold market, spices and of course, Argan Oil. So I bought my weight in Argan oil and brought it back here to the shores of Eire to test out.
Over time I naturally ran out of the stuff – I used it for everything and shared it round, even the boys can benefit from it! Fast forward a couple of years and Argan oil has been made abundant over here in the western world. Yipee. Thank God I don’t have to go back to Morocco!
The Body Shop have recently launched a brand spanking new range called Wild Argan Oil for your hair and body, all containing high concentrates of Argan oil. But why has this ingredient become so common in beauty products? What does it really do for us?
The Argan tree lives to be about 150 to 200 years old and does not start producing the fruit until it is 30 to 50 years old. Because the tree is found only in a limited area, the oil itself is quite rare. Although pure Argan oil is naturally quite pricey, you can still benefit from one of natures best kept secret by using more affordable products like these from The Body Shop.
Hair: Argan oil is a great product to calm frizzy ends, add moisture to dry hair as well as add a high shine. You can use the Wild Argon Oil The Radiant Oil from The Body Shop for this. It will improve the strength and condition of your strands as the oil’s healing blend of Vitamin E and Omega 3 fatty acids penetrate your hair’s cuticle.
I tried this with wet hair but when I blow dried it, it looked a tiny bit greasy. I got a much better result lashing the oil in my hair (roots and all) before bed and washing it well the next day.
Scalp: If you’re dealing with dry scalp, apply some argan oil to a cotton ball and dab your scalp with the oil. If you do this before bed, you’ll give the oil plenty of time to moisturize your scalp before you wash your hair in the morning. Again, you can do this with the Wild Argan Oil The Radiant Oil from The Body Shop.
Face: Argan oil’s rich combination of antioxidants, essential fatty acids and Vitamin E can prevent free radical damage to the skin and promote healthy cell turnover. It not only preserves existing collagen and but stimulates new collagen growth. The fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties and keep skin cells healthy and well-hydrated. I have sensitive skin and applying argan oil doesn’t irritate it or make it shiney/greasy. Just use it before bed rather than under your make-up! I have been using Wild Argan Oil Miracle Solid Oil which is 70% oil. You can use this anywhere on your body too, like elbows or knees, for a deep nourishing treatment.
Body: Of course you can use argan oil for a full body moisturizer, applying just as you would a body lotion or cream. Apply The Body Shop’s Wild Argan Oil Body Butter right after you get out of your shower for best moisturizing results, your pores are open and more absorbent.
Hands: Argan oil is a great oil to use on your hands, especially on your cuticles and on your nails if they are prone to cracking and peeling. Try the Wild Argan Oil Miricle Solid Oil for this. The tiny tub is handy for your handbag or bedside locker too!
Overall, I have been a little spoiled with this range. I’ve gotten argan-oil-overload but in a good way. My favorite was definitely the Radiant Oil, which gave my hair a beautiful overnight treatment and left it super shiny the next day. This oil comes in at €15 but doubles up as a dry body oil too which is useful for overall moisturizing.
Even if you picked up one of the products from The Wild Argan range you would reap the benefits of this powerful oil in whatever way suits you best. They have a total of eight products in the new range, you can check them all out here at TheBodyShop.ie
